Along the Hohnsensee lake and on the Kalenberger Graben ditch

The starting point for the shortest running route through Hildesheim is at the parking lot by Hohnsensee. Follow the lakeshore to the left. After passing the outdoor swimming pool at JoWiese, turn right. At the bridge, you now have a choice: For the short route (Loop I only, 2,3 kilometers), turn right before the bridge and run along the shore back to the parking lot.
If you'd like to extend the route a little, add Loop II (1,7 kilometers) to Loop I: Cross the bridge and follow Lucienvörder Straße. Opposite the correctional facility, turn left onto the path along the northern bank of the Kalenberger Graben and follow it. Walk past the statue of Rainald von Dassel to the Innerste River and follow the river upstream until you reach the bridge between Lucienvörder Straße and the outdoor swimming pool again. Turn left after the bridge to complete Loop I.

Directions

Loop I consists mostly of gravel paths, which can be muddy when wet. Loop II is partially paved (asphalt), but some sections are also gravel.
The approximately four-kilometer route has only slight inclines. It's a good route for beginners to start running and enjoy nature on the outskirts of Hildesheim's city center.
