Strolling in paradise
Once you've admired the splendor of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. Michael's Church, simply turn a corner and tranquility will envelop you: you'll find yourself surrounded by lush greenery. Where fruit and vegetables were once cultivated for the adjacent monastery, you'll now find one of the oldest parks in Northern Germany – a peaceful gem in the heart of the city, a veritable paradise for leisurely strolls. The air is filled with the fresh, invigorating scents of hundreds of roses, as well as rare wild tulips, and the orchard boasts old, prized varieties of fruit trees. On the sunny southern slope stretches the small vineyard, planted during the monastery's heyday, where you can discover a variety of wild herbs alongside the vines – no wonder insects and bees thrive here. The annual Magdalenenfest (Magdalene Festival) typically takes place, where regional vendors showcase their wellness and health products, fashion, jewelry, jams, and much more, alongside beautiful flowers, throughout the park. This festival is a must-see for everyone, not just garden enthusiasts.
