Buy without plastic.
Bring your own containers to the store (or buy some there), fill them with loose pulses, muesli, spices, or other treats, weigh them, and pay: That's how you shop at the zero-waste store "grammliebe," Hildesheim's first dedicated unpackaged goods store, located near the market square. It takes a little practice, but it saves on plastic and is therefore good for the environment. The long-established organic shop "Die Knolle" on Goschenstraße also has an unpackaged goods station, along with a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods from local producers, who can also be found at Hildesheim's markets. You should also try regionally produced delicacies such as honey from the organic beekeeping farm Eggers or fair-trade coffee from "Dreielf Rösthandwerk," and local handicrafts await you at the concept store "feinGESTALT," produced by students from the art academy.
