Places to enjoy and dream
When the streets around Andreasplatz are filled with the wonderful aroma of coffee, you know: "das kleine röstwerk" (the little roastery) is at work again. There, they process fair-trade beans from Mexico, Guatemala, Kenya, and elsewhere into high-quality products. You'll find the coffee roastery on the third floor of the "Umgestülpter Zuckerhut" (Upside-Down Sugarloaf), one of Hildesheim's most unusual buildings (its ground floor is smaller than its top floor). It also houses a coffee bar and a chocolate factory – places for you to indulge and dream. Another example is "Kaffeerösterei Schuler" (Schuler Coffee Roastery) on Osterstraße, not far from the market square, which, in addition to delicious coffee, offers a wide range of accessories, from beautiful grinders to hand-sewn bags made from coffee sacks. Meanwhile, the team at "Dreielf Rösthandwerk" (Three Fools' Roasting Craft) on Dingworthstraße has made transparency and responsibility their guiding principles; they strive to use only products from trusted traders and farmers. You can also learn more about coffee preparation in their workshops.
