Fresh on the table

Buy local, enjoy the best

Where does our food come from? Under what conditions is it produced? And how are our farm animals raised? At the farm shops and cafés in the region, you don't have to worry about such questions. The many fields, pastures, and farms of the Hildesheim region offer a wealth of delicious, healthy, and sustainable products for everyone who wants to enjoy their food with a clear conscience. In one of the typical farm shops, you can buy lovingly produced food directly from the producer – from fresh vegetables, milk, and cheese to eggs from happy free-range hens and the finest meat from pasture-raised cattle and premium Duroc straw-fed pigs. And the farm cafés are places to indulge in delicious homemade cakes, homemade ice cream, and, of course, only the best ingredients – sometimes even accompanied by art and live music.

Here, on warm summer days, you can enjoy homemade ice cream in the shade of the walnut trees or savor one of their popular homemade cakes baked according to traditional recipes. If the weather isn't so good, the treats are served in the cozy, rustic converted cowshed. Since 2007, this delicious farm-made ice cream has been produced in Hary using ingredients largely sourced from the region, initially by Julia Barnstorf's parents, and since 2016 under her own management.

Hof im Greth

On the outskirts of Söhlde, nestled in the flat countryside, lies the Greth farm. Sibylle and Helge Himstedt founded this organic sheep farm and cheese dairy with the aim of actively promoting future-oriented, responsible agriculture. The results of their work—delicious, handcrafted cheese specialties—can be purchased in the small farm shop. And for those who would like to take a look behind the scenes of this organic farm, a guided tour is offered every first Friday of the month. Visitors can not only get up close to the sheep but also sample the variety of high-quality cheese products during a subsequent tasting.

Niehoff's Farm Dairy

Nestled in the small, tranquil village of Bültum lies Niehoff's dairy farm. This family-run business, with over 400 years of history, not only milks and bottles fresh milk, but also produces delicious yogurt, fresh cheese, and soft cheeses. The couple places great emphasis on traditional methods and consciously avoids excessive processing of the milk to preserve its fresh taste and composition as much as possible. All these carefully crafted delicacies can be found directly in the farm shop. Here you'll also find occasional surprises and new products, such as iced coffee, drinking yogurt, or new cheese varieties.

Thiele's treat

Volker and Celina Thiele share their farm in Sorsum with 4.800 chickens. These hens not only enjoy spending their days outdoors in the fresh air, but thanks to a mobile chicken coop, they also have access to fresh grass and herbs to peck at. Delicious eggs and animal welfare are their top priorities. Thiele's delicious regional products – from free-range eggs and egg noodles to egg liqueur – are available in various Hildesheim markets, as well as in the farm's self-service shop. Those who want to experience farm life up close can stay in one of the three lovingly furnished guest rooms.
