Hildesheim Adventure Region

Natural. Cultural. Active.

Beyond the city limits of Hildesheim, the vastness of the region unfolds, inviting gourmets, nature lovers, explorers, and families alike. Natural and unspoiled, like the Hildesheim wild rose, picturesque villages of half-timbered houses and red brick buildings characterize this agricultural region, which you can experience firsthand in one of the typical farm shops and cafés – from tasting exquisite truffles to witnessing the production of delicious cheese. Who would have thought that in the small village of Holle, Derneburg Castle, one of the most prestigious museums of contemporary art, rises from the forest? Or that Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius gifted the town of Alfeld with a UNESCO World Heritage Site of architecture with the construction of the Fagus Factory? And of course, there's the fairytale Marienburg Castle, the last seat of the House of Welf and a popular filming location for television series that makes teenagers' hearts beat faster. The music scene, too, has much to offer, from classical to rock, from Freden to Algermissen. For those who are active in sports, the Innerste and Leine rivers are excellent for navigating by inflatable boat and SUP, or one can follow the blue veins on a bike tour along the Innerste or Leine-Heide cycle path.
