Whether you're exploring Hildesheim's sights as a tourist or out shopping as a local, it's always reassuring to know where the nearest restroom is. Most public restrooms operate cashless via debit card. Anyone who doesn't have one handy can use the... Tourist information for the toilet facility at An der Lilie (Marktstraße 13) – right on the historic market square – buy a one-time use QR code for €0,50. Simply hold the card with the QR code up to the scanner next to the door and you're good to go.

Use of public toilets for people with disabilities

A Euro WC key is available for loan at the Tourist Information Office for people with disabilities. This key allows eligible individuals to use all public restrooms in Hildesheim free of charge and with barrier-free access. Eligible individuals generally include:

  • an Disability ID card with at least 70% disability rating and the "G" symbol. 

  • an Severely disabled ID card with disability markers aG, B, H, BL

  • generally a Disability ID card with a degree of disability (GdB) over 80

  • wheelchair user

  • stoma patient

  • a corresponding EU-standard toilet key certificate 

  • comparable proof of medical necessity, e.g., multiple sclerosis, ulcerative colitis, Cohn's disease
