At 85 years old, the painter Hans-Jürgen Schmejkal can look back on more than 50 years of work. His oeuvre comprises 2.500 paintings and countless drawings and prints.
Hans-Jürgen Schmejkal, the "image finder," is a Dionysian painter who surrenders to the celebration of life. His paintings are expressive, colorful, and executed with generous brushstrokes. He lets go with the currents and vicissitudes of life, not swimming against them, but accompanying everything that happens to him through painting and writing. "Hans in the Picture" is the artist who develops a painting without really knowing where it's headed. He has no plan, and that is precisely the plan.
Hans-Jürgen Schmejkal, born in Königsberg in 1941, studied architecture in Hanover and Berlin. Since 1985 he has lived and worked in the municipality of Holle and has held regular exhibitions at the Derneburg Glass House.
