Exploring on your own

Of course, you don't necessarily need a guide to experience exciting things in Hildesheim. Many of the city's attractions can be explored independently, alone or with family or friends, at your own pace and on your own terms. However, you don't have to go it alone; the Tourist Information Office on the market square offers plenty of brochures and information on self-guided city tours. The Rose Route is a popular option, where rose-patterned cobblestones embedded in the streets guide you to the sights – an accompanying brochure provides facts and figures. Informative brochures are also available for the approximately 60 artworks on the Street Art Trail, for city walks, and for the City Pilgrimage Trail. Discover the two UNESCO World Heritage churches, St. Michael's and St. Mary's Cathedral, on a circular tour along the World Heritage Trail.
