UNESCO World Heritage Site Mariendom
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hildesheim Cathedral (Mariendom) is one of the city's main attractions. But what makes it so special? The cathedral impresses simply with its sheer size – and, of course, with its unique art treasures. For example, the gilded chandelier from the Middle Ages with a diameter of six meters! Or the so-called Bernward Doors – a masterpiece of bronze casting. But it's not just the architecture that is admired here. A popular photo spot is the 1000-year-old rosebush. Learn about the legend on site, which dates back to the founding of the diocese in 815 and literally revolves around this very spot.
