Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum
The Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum Hildesheim (RPM) is world-renowned for its Egyptian collection. But the RPM has much more to offer! In addition to the second-largest Egyptian collection, it also houses a natural history collection, an ethnological collection, exhibits on the history of the city of Hildesheim, and a collection of paintings and graphic art.
On its way to becoming a family-friendly universal museum that will eventually showcase all its collections, the RPM has featured the permanent exhibition "It's Served" since 2024, which connects objects from the city's history and ethnology related to the theme of food and drink. The exhibition presents rituals, utensils, conversations, and many other perspectives on dining culture. Unfortunately, due to a theft and planned renovations, not all exhibits can currently be displayed. The museum is making a virtue of necessity: Thematically appropriate LEGO® and PLAYMOBIL® installations are filling the gaps in the display cases.
The permanent Egyptian exhibition reopened in December 2025. Visitors can now explore the unique objects spanning 4000 years of ancient Egyptian culture through various interactive, multimedia, family-friendly, and engaging exhibits.
The museum is officially recognized as a children's museum due to its numerous hands-on activities. Children's Holiday Land Lower Saxony The business is certified and therefore stands for a particularly child- and family-friendly adventure.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing cultural break daily (including Mondays) from 9 am to 18 pm in the newly opened Kahlo Museum Café.

During the renovation phase, admission is at the construction site price! From September 30th until the opening in December, adults pay only €7,50 instead of €12,50 – including a voucher for another discounted visit within six months.

The RPM is accessible without barriers and also offers handouts in Easy Language, Dutch and English for the exhibition "It's Served".
Arrival & Parking
Please note: Due to construction work, the museum is currently not accessible by car via Dammstraße. Access via Schuhstraße is open. For bus travel, please use the Bohlweg or Dammtor stops.
Arrival by car: Take the A7 (Hanover-Kassel) to the Hildesheim or Hildesheim-Drispenstedt exit, then please follow the signs. Parking is available opposite the museum.
Arrival by train: Travel to Hildesheim main station. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk through the pedestrian zone to the Schuhstraße intersection, then turn right to reach the museum.
Public transport: from the main train station take city bus line 1 towards Himmelsthür or line 5 towards Ochtersum to the Museum stop.
