UNESCO World Heritage Day in Hildesheim invites you to discover on June 7th.

Free guided tours, music and special insights around the cathedral and St. Michael's Church

After Hildesheim hosted the nationwide opening ceremony for UNESCO World Heritage Day last year, this year's event will once again focus on the local program centered around the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hildesheim Cathedral and St. Michael's Church. On Sunday, June 7, visitors can expect a diverse program including guided tours, music, hands-on activities, and special behind-the-scenes glimpses into the World Heritage sites. 

This year's UNESCO World Heritage Day across Germany is themed "Together for Peace and Understanding." This highlights the importance of World Heritage sites as places of cultural exchange, encounters, and shared heritage. In Hildesheim, numerous institutions are opening their doors and inviting visitors to discover UNESCO World Heritage sites from new perspectives.

In St. Michaelis Guests can expect a comprehensive program with guided tours, musical performances, and activities for families. Visitors can discover the church and its history through various themed tours, learning more about the former Benedictine monastery and the church's significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Special perspectives on the famous painted ceiling and the church's architecture are also on offer. Families and children can also look forward to creative hands-on activities.

The St. Mary's Cathedral and Cathedral Museum They are also participating in UNESCO World Heritage Day with numerous free activities. Guided tours of the cathedral and museum will provide visitors with interesting information about the Hildesheim Cathedral Treasury and the history of the World Heritage Site. In addition, creative and interactive programs invite visitors to engage with art, history, and cultural heritage in new ways.

Hildesheim will also be represented with a stand in Regensburg, this year's host of the nationwide opening ceremony for UNESCO World Heritage Day. Alongside many other World Heritage sites, Hildesheim Marketing will be promoting a visit to Hildesheim's World Heritage sites on the central Haidplatz square. 

Germany-wide UNESCO World Heritage Day

UNESCO World Heritage Sites represent exceptional cultural and natural sites of universal value worldwide. In Germany, UNESCO World Heritage Day has been celebrated on the first Sunday in June since 2005, an initiative of the German Commission for UNESCO and the Association of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Germany. The aim is to make the World Heritage Sites accessible and to raise awareness of their protection and preservation.
