The Hildesheim Adventure Region kicks off the cycling season with a new Komoot collection.
Hildesheim. Just in time for the start of spring, the Hildesheim district, in cooperation with Hildesheim Marketing, is presenting a new digital cycling collection on the outdoor platform Komoot. The collection comprises ten carefully curated tours that invite cyclists to discover the diverse landscape and cultural treasures of the region between the Harz foothills, the Hildesheim Börde, and the Leine Uplands. The offering is aimed at families and leisurely cyclists as well as more ambitious riders.
The new Komoot collection brings together a selection of the region's most beautiful routes, making them digitally plannable and accessible. The routes lead through diverse natural landscapes, from the expansive, fertile plains of the Hildesheim Börde to the picturesque river valleys of the Innerste and Leine, and on to the rolling hills of the Leine Uplands. Each tour combines nature experiences with unique cultural highlights. The Komoot collection "Cycling Tours in the Hildesheim Adventure Region" is now available free of charge on the platform, offering a fantastic outdoor program just in time for the upcoming Easter holidays.
On Sunday, March 15th, the Hildesheim Adventure Region will present itself at the ADFC cycling and leisure fair in the Andreas Passage and provide information about cycling opportunities in the Hildesheim district.
A key focus of the Komoot collection is the combination of impressive cultural history and local charm. Several routes lead to the UNESCO World Heritage churches of St. Michaelis and St. Mary's Cathedral in Hildesheim. Other tours highlight hidden gems, such as... Cycle path to art, which connects sculptures and half-timbered buildings with the landscape of the Innerste Valley and the Leine Uplands over a distance of almost 60 kilometers, or the Ambergau Cycle PathThe trail, which largely follows a former railway line, leads from Seesen on the edge of the Harz Mountains to Derneburg Castle. There, visitors can enjoy changing exhibitions of contemporary artists in the art museum.
The selection of tours covers a wide spectrum. Families and leisure cyclists, for example, will find plenty to enjoy on the predominantly flat terrain. Leine-Külftal Cycle Path, the Ambergau Cycle Path as well as the Hi-Ring Ideal conditions prevail. Those seeking a sporting challenge can test their endurance on the longer stages of the long-distance cycle routes. For example, the Leine-Heide cycle path through the gently rolling Leine Uplands, during the Innerste Cycle Path The route traverses the region on its way from the source of the Harz Mountains to the mouth of the Leine River. Both routes require a good level of fitness due to their distance. All cycling tours are designed to be flexible, utilizing public transport and good train connections at the start, finish, and junction points.
“With this digital collection, we want to further develop the Hildesheim region as a destination for active and nature-based tourism, in addition to the hiking collection that has been available since 2025,” says Fritz S. Ahrberg, Managing Director of Hildesheim Marketing GmbH. “The tours on Komoot not only offer precise navigation, but also tell the stories of our region – from the traces of the Steinway piano-making family in Seesen to the industrial history of the Börde region and the 1.000-year-old rosebush at Hildesheim Cathedral. It’s an invitation to discover our home region actively and sustainably,” adds Nadine Miske, Tourism Manager for the Hildesheim district.
The collection includes detailed route descriptions, elevation profiles, and points out places of interest and rest stops such as farm cafés. It also provides practical advice on how to be considerate in nature reserves and on roads with agricultural traffic.
