Beach season 2026 ends
Citybeach draws a positive conclusion – new layout and sunny weather are convincing
Hildesheim. For seven weeks, the City Beach brought a holiday atmosphere to Hildesheim's city center. Following the end of the 17th season on August 16th, Hildesheim Marketing GmbH is drawing a positive conclusion. The predominantly sunny weather with only a few rainy days, the new setup, and the diverse program of events ensured a successful season. The restaurant partners are also satisfied.
For much of the time, visitors were able to enjoy the city beach in summery weather. Weather-related restrictions were only occasional. The various covered seating areas also offered sheltered spots during periods of intense heat or brief rain showers. "We can look back on a very successful City Beach season. The event drew many people to the An der Lilie square. We are particularly pleased that the new layout proved successful and was well received by both our guests and our catering partners," says Friederike Schierz, Team Leader City Management & Events at Hildesheim Marketing.
The new structure has proven successful
The new arrangement of the two sand areas was well received by visitors and represents a logical continuation of the redesign that began in 2025 with a new corporate design and initial new design elements. "Within two years, we completely revamped the event with a significant effort from the team, without compromising its character. The positive feedback and the many satisfied guests are the greatest confirmation of our efforts. I am personally very pleased about this," says Fritz S. Ahrberg, Managing Director of Hildesheim Marketing.
Mediterranean plants, stylishly designed lounge areas, around 100 tons of sand, and strings of lights created an inviting beach atmosphere. The new Villa dell'Angelo cabin and the Sparkasse deck above it added another attractive space. The gbg Beach Lounge, the Villa Lounge, and the Einbeck Terrace were also very popular. The various areas offered space for relaxation as well as for meetings, receptions, and private events. Families found opportunities to build, play, and relax in the play area.
The restaurant industry reports positive results.
The restaurant partners are also pleased with how the season went. Summer cocktails and long drinks, as well as the diverse food offerings, were well received by guests. Events such as Student Monday, "Afterwork@Citybeach," and the Saturday specials as part of "Summer in the City" provided additional reasons to visit.
Varied program for young and old
The event program in 2026 once again offered a variety of sporting, creative, and informative activities. Highlights included the Cornhole Sparkassen Cup, the sandcastle competition supported by the Arneken Gallery, and the kwg Beach Soccer Cup. Hilsoccer GmbH and gbg Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Hildesheim AG presented a new sporting format, the Citybeach 9-Darter, which was also well-received by the public.
Sustainable operation using regional solar power
Sustainability once again played a key role. The entire City Beach was powered by regionally generated solar energy in cooperation with EVI Energieversorgung Hildesheim and EVI SOLARMEILE. The intelligent irrigation system also ensured that the plants received water only when needed and conserved resources. For the first time, four solar-powered Bigbelly trash cans with fill-level sensors were used on the grounds. "Our thanks go to all visitors, our catering partners, sponsors, and everyone else involved who made the City Beach possible again this year. The positive feedback shows that the urban beach continues to be an important meeting place during Hildesheim's summer events calendar," said Friederike Schierz.
